Evaluation

Part One: Discuss your feelings about the e-pub, poster and commentary task:
1. Are you satisfied with the final result?
I am very satisfied with my final result and am happy with the e-pub I made. Overall I thought my e-pub showed everything I did to make each scene and what happened in the scene. It, in my eyes was very well detailed. However, if I had more time, i would have liked to add information about my deleted scenes, and how I created my music in Garage-band.

2. Did the e-pub require more/less time than you originally thought?
It surprisingly required more time than I originally thought when I was planning my film. This was mainly because I did not have enough time to spend time on the e-pub. This is due to taking to long while taking photos of my characters to create my poster. I would have liked more time to create a chapter about deleted scenes and music but because there wasn't enough time, I wasn't able to.

3. Would like to change any aspects of your final project (layout, links, images, video and audio content, colour scheme etc)?
Aspects of my film I would like to change would be to change how I made the film because when I saw it in QuickTime and I-Movie, the film was blurry and not clear. Another aspect of this project I would change a bit more would be my poster. The poster for me, looked too fake and it didn't turn out the way I wanted it to. Therefore the poster for me was a little disappointing.

4. If you could start the project again what would you do differently?
If I started the project again, I would change my poster so I could improve it to make it more realistic and appealing to audiences today. I would also like to add more to my e-pub through putting deleted scenes information and more information about how I made my music.

Part Two: Respond to each of the following dot points (using complete sentences or paragraphs). You should include as much detail as possible in your responses.
1. Discuss whether your e-pub and poster have turned out the way you pictured them?
The way I pictured them was a bit different from what they have turned out to be but I am happy either way about the way my e-pub have turned out. However my poster for me could have been a lot better than what I had thought it could have been. I also thought I would have been able to put more information into the e-pub but this never happened because I did not have enough time.

2. Explain whether your e-pub and poster clearly depicts the style of your animation and describe some specific design principles that you have used to achieve this:
The e-pub clearly depicts the style of animation used in my film however the poster didn't turn out to be exactly the way it should have been to suit the film because it seems like a dark film in the poster, but really it is a children's film. Therefore the poster doesn't relate to the film the way it should have.

3. Describe any problems or technical difficulties you encountered while creating your director commentaries in Garage-band. These may include; sound or video issues, corrupt or missing files, difficulty using the iBooks Author or Garage-band software, problems importing/exporting files, etc;
Technical difficulties I encountered while creating my directors commentary was:
- Exporting the song/recording of my voice so I could put it into my I-Book
- Recording my voice in a silent spot
- Putting the scenes and the recordings of myself on the e-pub
- Using iBook Author
- Figuring out how to use -book author

4. Did you have all of the necessary resources to complete your e-pub and poster or did you have to create new materials?
During the creation of my e-pub, I did have all the materials I needed to finish it, however it was difficult borrowing the laptop out all the time so I could work on it at home. However sometimes I wasn't able to borrow a laptop out because I wasn't early enough which therefore caused problems with time-management.

5. List the steps you used to plan and develop your project;
- Took photos of characters
- Created my poster on Photoshop
- Wrote what happens in each scene
- Wrote how I made each scene
- Record my self saying what happened in the scene
- Create my e-pub
- Test my e-pub on my iPad

6. Did you use content-lists, flowcharts or other documents during the planning process;
No I did not.

7. Clarify any time-management issues you encountered during the creative process and describe the steps you took to improve in this area;
A time management issue that happened while in the process of my e-pub, was when I tried to take photos of my characters but it also took too long so I didn't get enough time for my e-pub. This also happened when I tried to borrow out a laptop from the library but they were all booked out so that caused problems with time-management.

8. Discuss whether you undertook adequate and detailed reflection throughout your project. i.e. Have you provided enough evidence to support your work? (Look back at your blogs and think about whether it looks like a whole terms worth of work);
In my reflections I think I did well with my reflections but I could have added more detail into them. Therefore I should have done more reflections to improve my grade. And I also should have done more posts on the blog so it would have been a more regular blogger.

Chapter 10

About the Scene: In this scene, it is one of the shortest scenes in the film. It is another scene to show the bond created by the two main protagonists of the film however with a twist shown at the end of the scene. It was one of the shorter scenes which obviously made it easier to create. This scene is mainly about the two main characters showing their friendship by walking through the park once again just like in the third scene of the film however it also showed Grunt secretly keeping the Amazing Water-bottle for himself.

How I made the Scene: This scene although a short scene, was one of the easiest scenes to make.  To create this scene, I used the cardboard box that was used in the first and second scenes and with the assistance of A3 blue and green grass like paper; I was able to create the illusion of a park like background. I then used my camera to make use of a long shot of the park, and then the characters would from a spot close to the camera facing the back wall, which therefore creates the other illusion of the characters walking into the distance. However near the end of the scene, I zoomed to a close-up of the character Grunt to show he secretly had the Amazing Water-bottle.

Chapter 9

About the Scene: This scene was one of the longer scenes in this film and also one of the hardest scenes to create. It was also one of the most important scenes in the film. This scene is about Sharpie getting angry about himself being trapped in jail, but as he shakes the gate too hard, it breaks and falls down. At this moment, Sharpie firstly becomes shocked; however, he then starts his evil laugh as he will try to again steal the Amazing Water-bottle (elixir of life).

How I made the Scene: To create this scene, it was one of the longest scenes in the film and also one of the hardest scenes in the film to create, however it was one of the most important scenes to make. To make this scene, I again used the cardboard box used from the first few scenes. For the background I used the blue and green A3 paper to create the illusion of a park, however, to make the jail set, it was more complicated. I printed out a brick wall from the computer three times and used sticky tape to keep them together. I then shaped so it looked like a separate room, and then used my Harry Potter gate set from home as the gate into the jail where Sharpie would be held. As of the camera position, I started off as a front on full shot of the character in jail, but then I changed the shot to a high shot so we see the character from above as he does an evil laugh.

Chapter 8

About the Scene: In this scene, it is one of the shortest scenes in the film and one of the least important scenes. It is another scene to show the bond created by the two main protagonists of the film. It was one of the shorter scenes which obviously made it easier to create. This scene is mainly about the two main characters showing their friendship by walking through the park once again just like in the third scene of the film however it was to show the two main characters walking away from the jail Sharpie was put in and to enjoy the rest of their day.

Chapter 7

About the Scene: This scene was actually one of the shorter scenes in the film, however, one of the hardest scenes to create. It was also one of the most important scenes within the film. This scene is when Arnold (police officer) has taken Sharpie into jail for his evil crimes, and as Sharpie was locked in the jail, Sharpie then went to the front of the gate and said, 'Whyyyyyyy.' He is then showed to be upset after his capture and being locked in jail.

How I made the Scene: To create this scene, it might have been one of the shortest scenes in the film, however, one of the hardest scenes to create. It was also one of the most important scenes within the film. While in the making of this scene, I again used the cardboard box used from the first few scenes. For the camera position I stated off with a medium shot of the two characters walking into the jail however zoomed out of the frame to a full shot as Sharpie was locked up.

Chapter 6

About the Scene: In the sixth scene for my film, it was one of the longer scenes, and one of the most important scenes within the film. This scene is mainly focused on Patchy chasing after Sharpie through the park because of what he did to Grunt and bring him to justice for the horrible treatment he gave to Grunt. Once Patchy caught up to Sharpie, Patchy then did a slide tackle to Sharpie which tripped him over so he could be captured by the police. As Sharpie was then lying on the ground, helpless, Patchy stood tall as he was proud of his heroic achievement.

How I made the Scene: On the whole, this scene is one of the longer scenes to create and also one of the most important scenes within the film however; it was actually one of the easier scenes to create. To create this scene I used the cardboard box again that was used in the first few scenes and with the assistance of A3 blue and green grass like paper; I was again able to create the illusion of a park like background like in first few scenes as well. With the camera work, I used the camera to start as a long shot while the characters were running, however when Patchy tripped Sharpie over, the camera zoomed in to a full shot.

Chapter 5

About the Scene: In this fifth scene, it was one the easier scenes to make however one of the most important scenes in the film. This scene is mainly about Patchy asking Grunt whether he is okay from what happened in the last scene when Sharpie pushed Grunt over and hurt him. Also in this scene, Patchy is about to help Grunt, however Grunt wants Patchy to catch Sharpie so he can be give to the police and then be put in jail. Grunt therefore points to the direction in which Sharpie traveled so Patchy knows where to go to capture him.

How I made the Scene: Overall, this scene is one of the easier scenes to make however one of the most important scenes in the film. This scene was also a quick process which gave me more time to work on my other scenes. To create this scene, I used the cardboard box again that was used in the first few scenes and with the assistance of A3 blue and green grass like paper; I was again able to create the illusion of a park like background like in first few scenes as well. I then used the camera to start out as a long shot to show the scene. However as Patchy moved in to help Grunt, I moved the camera closer to a medium shot.

Chapter 4

About the Scene: In this fourth scene, it was one of the more important scenes however was  a harder scene to create which therefore took a lot of time to create. It is basically the scene where the plot for the film starts in motion. This scene is where the two main characters say their goodbyes, however Sharpie comes and is trying to run away from the police so therefore pushes Grunt over and therefore injures him which leaves Patchy and Grunt shocked. Then as Grunt is pushed over, Sharpie continues to run away.

How I made the Scene: While in the process of making this scene, I found this scene was one of the most difficult scenes to make. It also was one of the longest scenes in the film therefore making this scene a longer process to develop. To create this scene, I used the cardboard box that was used in the first few scenes and with the assistance of A3 blue and green grass like paper; I was able to create the illusion of a park like background like in first few scenes as well. I then used the camera to start out as a long shot to show the two characters saying their goodbyes, however as Sharpie came from the left side and left to the right side of the camera, the camera was then made to focus on the two main characters individually starting with a close-up shot of Grunt on the floor injured, then moving on to Patchy with a close-up shot showing his shocked face.

Chapter 3

About the Scene: In the third scene, it mainly a continuation from the last scene. It is another scene to show the bond created by the two main protagonists of the film. It was one of the shorter scenes which obviously made it easier to create. This scene is mainly about the two main characters showing their friendship by walking through the park once again just like in the last scene.

How I made the Scene: This scene although a short scene, was one of the easiest scenes to make, as it was a continuation of the last scene.

Chapter 2

About the Scene: In this second scene, this is the first scene where we are able to see the main protagonists for the film. However this scene was one of the shorter scenes that was made therefore it was able to be made quickly and easily. The idea for this scene is to show the two characters walking in the park together as best friends. Therefore this scene is mainly to show the bond between the two characters.

How I made the Scene: Although this scene wasn’t one of the most important scenes to create, it also was one of the easiest scenes to make. To create this scene, I used the cardboard box that was used in the first scene and with the assistance of A3 blue and green grass like paper; I was able to create the illusion of a park like background. I then used my camera to make use of a long shot of the park empty, but then the characters would come from the left side of the camera and walk to the right side of the screen then later walk of screen.

Chapter 1

About the Scene: In this scene, it was one of the most important scenes in my film. It also was the first scene I ever did for my film that was a very big stepping stone for my animating. This scene is of a great importance because it sets the stage for one of the main characters, Sharpie, the main antagonist for the film. It is mainly about Sharpie stealing the ‘Amazing Water Bottle’ from the museum, which he wants so he can live forever which is a seriously powerful object. It is also a scene where the audience really starts to get an idea of the plot.

How I made the Scene: This scene was one of the most important scenes in the film; however it was one of the easiest scenes to create. To create the set for the scene, I needed to make a box made of cardboard so it was easier to not film anything else in the background. Once the box was complete, I used a golden A3 paper to create a floor for the museum. For the back wall, I used another A3 piece of paper so the attention would mainly be focused on the character. While filming, I used an iPevo camera, which made the film come out with a better resolution. While filming the shot I used was full shot of the museum, however Sharpie comes into the frame from the right side and leaves to the left side of the camera.

CM

For the past week I have been working on my poster of my 'directors cut'. I have taken individual photos of the characters which I then merged the photos all together in one frame, which expect will look very interesting. Overall the poster is coming along very well. This is what it looks like so far:
