Part One: Discuss your feelings about the e-pub, poster and commentary task:
1. Are you satisfied with the final result?
I am very satisfied with my final result and am happy with the e-pub I made. Overall I thought my e-pub showed everything I did to make each scene and what happened in the scene. It, in my eyes was very well detailed. However, if I had more time, i would have liked to add information about my deleted scenes, and how I created my music in Garage-band.
2. Did the e-pub require more/less time than you originally thought?
It surprisingly required more time than I originally thought when I was planning my film. This was mainly because I did not have enough time to spend time on the e-pub. This is due to taking to long while taking photos of my characters to create my poster. I would have liked more time to create a chapter about deleted scenes and music but because there wasn't enough time, I wasn't able to.
3. Would like to change any aspects of your final project (layout, links, images, video and audio content, colour scheme etc)?
Aspects of my film I would like to change would be to change how I made the film because when I saw it in QuickTime and I-Movie, the film was blurry and not clear. Another aspect of this project I would change a bit more would be my poster. The poster for me, looked too fake and it didn't turn out the way I wanted it to. Therefore the poster for me was a little disappointing.
4. If you could start the project again what would you do differently?
If I started the project again, I would change my poster so I could improve it to make it more realistic and appealing to audiences today. I would also like to add more to my e-pub through putting deleted scenes information and more information about how I made my music.
Part Two: Respond to each of the following dot points (using complete sentences or paragraphs). You should include as much detail as possible in your responses.
1. Discuss whether your e-pub and poster have turned out the way you pictured them?
The way I pictured them was a bit different from what they have turned out to be but I am happy either way about the way my e-pub have turned out. However my poster for me could have been a lot better than what I had thought it could have been. I also thought I would have been able to put more information into the e-pub but this never happened because I did not have enough time.
2. Explain whether your e-pub and poster clearly depicts the style of your animation and describe some specific design principles that you have used to achieve this:
The e-pub clearly depicts the style of animation used in my film however the poster didn't turn out to be exactly the way it should have been to suit the film because it seems like a dark film in the poster, but really it is a children's film. Therefore the poster doesn't relate to the film the way it should have.
3. Describe any problems or technical difficulties you encountered while creating your director commentaries in Garage-band. These may include; sound or video issues, corrupt or missing files, difficulty using the iBooks Author or Garage-band software, problems importing/exporting files, etc;
Technical difficulties I encountered while creating my directors commentary was:
- Exporting the song/recording of my voice so I could put it into my I-Book
- Recording my voice in a silent spot
- Putting the scenes and the recordings of myself on the e-pub
- Using iBook Author
- Figuring out how to use -book author
4. Did you have all of the necessary resources to complete your e-pub and poster or did you have to create new materials?
During the creation of my e-pub, I did have all the materials I needed to finish it, however it was difficult borrowing the laptop out all the time so I could work on it at home. However sometimes I wasn't able to borrow a laptop out because I wasn't early enough which therefore caused problems with time-management.
5. List the steps you used to plan and develop your project;
- Took photos of characters
- Created my poster on Photoshop
- Wrote what happens in each scene
- Wrote how I made each scene
- Record my self saying what happened in the scene
- Create my e-pub
- Test my e-pub on my iPad
6. Did you use content-lists, flowcharts or other documents during the planning process;
No I did not.
7. Clarify any time-management issues you encountered during the creative process and describe the steps you took to improve in this area;
A time management issue that happened while in the process of my e-pub, was when I tried to take photos of my characters but it also took too long so I didn't get enough time for my e-pub. This also happened when I tried to borrow out a laptop from the library but they were all booked out so that caused problems with time-management.
8. Discuss whether you undertook adequate and detailed reflection throughout your project. i.e. Have you provided enough evidence to support your work? (Look back at your blogs and think about whether it looks like a whole terms worth of work);
In my reflections I think I did well with my reflections but I could have added more detail into them. Therefore I should have done more reflections to improve my grade. And I also should have done more posts on the blog so it would have been a more regular blogger.

Chapter 10
About the Scene: In this scene, it is one of the shortest scenes in the film. It is another scene to show the bond created by the two main protagonists of the film however with a twist shown at the end of the scene. It was one of the shorter scenes which obviously made it easier to create. This scene is mainly about the two main characters showing their friendship by walking through the park once again just like in the third scene of the film however it also showed Grunt secretly keeping the Amazing Water-bottle for himself.
How I made the Scene: This scene although a short scene, was one of the easiest scenes to make. To create this scene, I used the cardboard box that was used in the first and second scenes and with the assistance of A3 blue and green grass like paper; I was able to create the illusion of a park like background. I then used my camera to make use of a long shot of the park, and then the characters would from a spot close to the camera facing the back wall, which therefore creates the other illusion of the characters walking into the distance. However near the end of the scene, I zoomed to a close-up of the character Grunt to show he secretly had the Amazing Water-bottle.

Chapter 9
About the Scene: This scene was one of the longer scenes in this film and also one of the hardest scenes to create. It was also one of the most important scenes in the film. This scene is about Sharpie getting angry about himself being trapped in jail, but as he shakes the gate too hard, it breaks and falls down. At this moment, Sharpie firstly becomes shocked; however, he then starts his evil laugh as he will try to again steal the Amazing Water-bottle (elixir of life).
How I made the Scene: To create this scene, it was one of the longest scenes in the film and also one of the hardest scenes in the film to create, however it was one of the most important scenes to make. To make this scene, I again used the cardboard box used from the first few scenes. For the background I used the blue and green A3 paper to create the illusion of a park, however, to make the jail set, it was more complicated. I printed out a brick wall from the computer three times and used sticky tape to keep them together. I then shaped so it looked like a separate room, and then used my Harry Potter gate set from home as the gate into the jail where Sharpie would be held. As of the camera position, I started off as a front on full shot of the character in jail, but then I changed the shot to a high shot so we see the character from above as he does an evil laugh.

Chapter 8
About the Scene: In this scene, it is one of the shortest scenes in the film and one of the least important scenes. It is another scene to show the bond created by the two main protagonists of the film. It was one of the shorter scenes which obviously made it easier to create. This scene is mainly about the two main characters showing their friendship by walking through the park once again just like in the third scene of the film however it was to show the two main characters walking away from the jail Sharpie was put in and to enjoy the rest of their day.

Chapter 7
About the Scene: This scene was actually one of the shorter scenes in the film, however, one of the hardest scenes to create. It was also one of the most important scenes within the film. This scene is when Arnold (police officer) has taken Sharpie into jail for his evil crimes, and as Sharpie was locked in the jail, Sharpie then went to the front of the gate and said, 'Whyyyyyyy.' He is then showed to be upset after his capture and being locked in jail.

Chapter 6
About the Scene: In the sixth scene for my film, it was one of the longer scenes, and one of the most important scenes within the film. This scene is mainly focused on Patchy chasing after Sharpie through the park because of what he did to Grunt and bring him to justice for the horrible treatment he gave to Grunt. Once Patchy caught up to Sharpie, Patchy then did a slide tackle to Sharpie which tripped him over so he could be captured by the police. As Sharpie was then lying on the ground, helpless, Patchy stood tall as he was proud of his heroic achievement.
How I made the Scene: On the whole, this scene is one of the longer scenes to create and also one of the most important scenes within the film however; it was actually one of the easier scenes to create. To create this scene I used the cardboard box again that was used in the first few scenes and with the assistance of A3 blue and green grass like paper; I was again able to create the illusion of a park like background like in first few scenes as well. With the camera work, I used the camera to start as a long shot while the characters were running, however when Patchy tripped Sharpie over, the camera zoomed in to a full shot.

Chapter 5
About the Scene: In this fifth scene, it was one the easier scenes to make however one of the most important scenes in the film. This scene is mainly about Patchy asking Grunt whether he is okay from what happened in the last scene when Sharpie pushed Grunt over and hurt him. Also in this scene, Patchy is about to help Grunt, however Grunt wants Patchy to catch Sharpie so he can be give to the police and then be put in jail. Grunt therefore points to the direction in which Sharpie traveled so Patchy knows where to go to capture him.
How I made the Scene: Overall, this scene is one of the easier scenes to make however one of the most important scenes in the film. This scene was also a quick process which gave me more time to work on my other scenes. To create this scene, I used the cardboard box again that was used in the first few scenes and with the assistance of A3 blue and green grass like paper; I was again able to create the illusion of a park like background like in first few scenes as well. I then used the camera to start out as a long shot to show the scene. However as Patchy moved in to help Grunt, I moved the camera closer to a medium shot.

Chapter 4
About the Scene: In this fourth scene, it was one of the more important scenes however was a harder scene to create which therefore took a lot of time to create. It is basically the scene where the plot for the film starts in motion. This scene is where the two main characters say their goodbyes, however Sharpie comes and is trying to run away from the police so therefore pushes Grunt over and therefore injures him which leaves Patchy and Grunt shocked. Then as Grunt is pushed over, Sharpie continues to run away.
How I made the Scene: While in the process of making this scene, I found this scene was one of the most difficult scenes to make. It also was one of the longest scenes in the film therefore making this scene a longer process to develop. To create this scene, I used the cardboard box that was used in the first few scenes and with the assistance of A3 blue and green grass like paper; I was able to create the illusion of a park like background like in first few scenes as well. I then used the camera to start out as a long shot to show the two characters saying their goodbyes, however as Sharpie came from the left side and left to the right side of the camera, the camera was then made to focus on the two main characters individually starting with a close-up shot of Grunt on the floor injured, then moving on to Patchy with a close-up shot showing his shocked face.

Chapter 3
About the Scene: In the third scene, it mainly a continuation from the last scene. It is another scene to show the bond created by the two main protagonists of the film. It was one of the shorter scenes which obviously made it easier to create. This scene is mainly about the two main characters showing their friendship by walking through the park once again just like in the last scene.

Chapter 2
About the Scene: In this second scene, this is the first scene where we are able to see the main protagonists for the film. However this scene was one of the shorter scenes that was made therefore it was able to be made quickly and easily. The idea for this scene is to show the two characters walking in the park together as best friends. Therefore this scene is mainly to show the bond between the two characters.
How I made the Scene: Although this scene wasn’t one of the most important scenes to create, it also was one of the easiest scenes to make. To create this scene, I used the cardboard box that was used in the first scene and with the assistance of A3 blue and green grass like paper; I was able to create the illusion of a park like background. I then used my camera to make use of a long shot of the park empty, but then the characters would come from the left side of the camera and walk to the right side of the screen then later walk of screen.

Chapter 1
About the Scene: In this scene, it was one of the most important scenes in my film. It also was the first scene I ever did for my film that was a very big stepping stone for my animating. This scene is of a great importance because it sets the stage for one of the main characters, Sharpie, the main antagonist for the film. It is mainly about Sharpie stealing the ‘Amazing Water Bottle’ from the museum, which he wants so he can live forever which is a seriously powerful object. It is also a scene where the audience really starts to get an idea of the plot.
How I made the Scene: This scene was one of the most important scenes in the film; however it was one of the easiest scenes to create. To create the set for the scene, I needed to make a box made of cardboard so it was easier to not film anything else in the background. Once the box was complete, I used a golden A3 paper to create a floor for the museum. For the back wall, I used another A3 piece of paper so the attention would mainly be focused on the character. While filming, I used an iPevo camera, which made the film come out with a better resolution. While filming the shot I used was full shot of the museum, however Sharpie comes into the frame from the right side and leaves to the left side of the camera.

For the past week I have been working on my poster of my 'directors cut'. I have taken individual photos of the characters which I then merged the photos all together in one frame, which expect will look very interesting. Overall the poster is coming along very well. This is what it looks like so far:

For this past week in creative media, it has been very interesting. We have started a new piece of assessment which is that we have to create ePub/iBook in which we make a "Directors Cut" about our film that was made in term 3. In that we have to write about each scene in a chapter for each one a give a description about each scene and other explanations. We also have to film ourselves to explain how we feel about each scene and our comments on them about what we could have done to make them better. We also have to include each scene for each chapter. Another aspect is create a film poster in portrait which should be interesting. As an example and a trial we made one which looks like this:

Digitopia Essay
The animator, Miwa Matreyk uses
her animation to convey various messages within her animation through her style
of animation and various artistic choices. One of these films that she uses to
convey a message is Digitopia. A futuristic world, between utopia and
dystopia, populated by strange creatures. The crucial message that is
communicated from this animation is that the world should come together to help
and make our world a better place for us to live in, and not to destroy it. The animator uses elements of art, sound and objects to
convey emotion which helps display the message the film interprets.
As a result, Miwa’s use of art, sound and various objects helps form a
message that is of the greatest importance to the world. Through using these
elements, Miwa is able to convey the message that the world should come
together to help and make our world a better place for us to live in, and not to
destroy it. This message is of a great worldwide importance that could be very
influential on today’s society. Therefore the film Digitopia is a very influential
and has a great level of importance to the world.
Miwa’s use of different aspects of
art, contributes immensely to the production of the mood, which therefore helps
the message come about. Through the use of black and white within the film, helps
create an intense mood of the animation. The bright colours of the animation
form the idea of belief and faith which help make the message feel like it is
of great importance. These bright colours that are used are aqua blue and red.
This use of aqua blue for the sky puts forth a sense of hope, whilst the red stands
out from the others and also contributes to sense of hope.
The use of sound in Miwa’s animation
also contributes to creation of the message. The music in the background is
slow but repetitive which therefore makes the sound intense. This therefore
creates a curious and intense tone. The use of repetition is mainly based on
the word ‘Utopia’ which helps convey the meaning about the animation. This
aspect of the film makes a large contribution to the message of the film and the
films tones.
The films use of objects has a major
contribution to the creation of the message. Miwa’s use of hands is one of
biggest contributions in the animation. In one of the scenes, the hands are
used to massage the cities which help communicate the idea that we must help
our homes become better and more useful to the world. Another scene on which
the hands are used is when they are portrayed as animals to communicate that we
must help animals just as much as ourselves. One other scene that uses hands is
when a hand is walking in an area of what used to be a forest but now is a land
of deforestation. There is also another stage in the film where scientists are studying
cells of the humans which therefore give the impression that people should help
each other in any way possible. These objects that are used within the film
help to communicate to us the very valuable message of the film.

out and started singing. The last thing I thought was interesting about the
film was at the end when the women were on top of each other to make a pyramid,
with the eye at the peak of the pyramid was very interesting and unusual.
What meaning did you think the artist was trying to
convey?

Did sound play an important part in your response
to the film?
In the film, sound did play an important part in my response towards the
film because it helped me understand the film better and got a better feeling
of what the mood was in the film.
What comments can you make about the animators
technique? (i.e. was it simple, complicated, smooth, jerky etc)
The animators technique on the film was complicated because of all the
little thing they would of had to do to make it as smooth as what it is.
Do you think that this animation would have been
well planned?
I think this animation would have been well planned.

For this begining of the week has been very productive but a little disappointing. When I borrowed a laptop over the weekend to finish my project I found that my Jail was missing from my set, so I couldn't do my last scene. Therefore when I got to school I looked around but could not find it. So I started to ask people, I found pieces of it in the next classrooms with drwing all over it and pieces are now missing which means someone stole it. This was very disappointing however I made another jail through borrowing someone elses lego. Therefore I now have finished my project which is very exciting. Now when I have CM next I will combine all of the scenes together and start to make the sound on Garageband. Therefore I have had a very productive week apart from the stolen parts.

Today I had a very productive day. First Mr Andrew made us sit down and learn how to combine all of the scenes together as one and put music or voices on them which was interesting. I was actually about to ask how to do that but luckily Mr Andrews wanted to show everyone first. I finally did scene 6 which took only 20 minutes to do but I actually thought it would of taken the whole period.

Today, I made a list of all the items I will need for my animation. I didn't film today because today is Open Day so I didn't have much time to do anything.

Today was very productive but difficult. Today we cleaned the room which was finally a big relief. The room which looked like a pig sty, now looks like a classroom which is really good. However, after we finished cleaning, I started to film again. But when I started to film, I had lots of trouble with my panda. I tried so many times to make it walk but I couldn't. It was really difficult.

For this past week in the begining of term, I have finally started to film my animation film, called Kung Fu Patchy. It has been very interesting. At the moment I have started to film scene 3. However I have ran into some difficulty with the characters. Patchy and Grunt are not walking properly but to fix this I have made the characters walk by moving their legs individually by one frame at a time. So at the moment my film is going as planned.

Practice Clay Characters
Because I needed to start making the characters, I started to make them out of clay. For my first character of Patchy, I made an example Panda to test whether it moved or not and it worked very well:

Creative Media (Celeb)
The next task Mr Andrews asked us to do was to put a celebrity on our walking man. So I decided to put Josh Hutcherson (he is in THE HUNGER GAMES) on my walking mans head. To do this I had to find a photo of him on the internet and then save it. i then opened it on photoshop which enabled me to save it as a PNG file which I then imported it onto my walking man project.
CM
A very exciting task that we did to practice on our animation which was fun was making a walking man. What we did was we got a photo from our multimedia drive and got a photo of a walking man at different stages in his walk. We then imported it as a PNG to Animation-ish and traced over it. Then we deleted the photo and then all we had was our drawing then pressed play and it repeated and actually looked like a walking man.
Creative Media
In these first weeks we had started to work with animation-ish. One movement we worked on was a bouncing ball which did twice.

Creative Media
Today we continued on with animation. We finally started to work with a person and started to make a person move in animation-ish. What happened was we took photos of ourselves say "Hello, my name is Ilona.". Next lesson we will be continuing this by going to garage-band and making it have sound which will be exciting.
Homework (Definitions)
Motion Tween:
A motion tween is a preferred way to create animation in Flash. If a symbol in one keyframe is moved to a different position on the Stage in a second keyframe, a motion tween can apply that change in position gradually through the between frames.
Tween:
Tweening is the process of generating frames between two images to give the appearance that the first image evolves smoothly into the second image. Tweens are the drawings between the key frames which help to create the illusion of motion.
Keyframe:
A key frame in animation and filmmaking is a drawing that defines the starting and ending points of any smooth transition.
Animation Cycle:
Using the technique of cycle animation, it is possible for the animator to reuse such a sequence of drawings over and over again to build up screen time.

1st Leson in Term 2
Today was our first creative media lesson back which was exciting. Mr Andrews told us what we would be doing this term which is mainly about animation. Some websites we would use to make our movie is animaton-is and i-stop motion on Mac computers which is going to be exciting. We also were shown 30 second animations on this website called Angry Alien which was so funny.

Term 1 Evaluation
Avatar Reflection/evaluation:
Respond to
each of the following dot points (using complete sentences or paragraphs). You
should include as much detail as possible in your responses.
·
Describe any
problems or difficulties you encountered during the creation and editing of
your avatar. These may include; technical difficulties, corrupt or missing
files, knowledge of Photoshop tools issues. etc;
During the creation of my avatars, some
problems that encountered was when I found out I had to get new eyes because the
first pair was from Google and therefore copyright, it took a long time to find
some new ones on flickr. Another problem that I encountered was my black
leather jacket. While looking on flickr for a black leather jacket, I couldn’t
find any that suited the avatar, so then I had to ask Mr Andrew whether I could
use an image from google which he then did.
·
Explain
whether your planning and organization (of ideas, files, inspiration) helped during
the technical creation;
My planning and organization of everything
that went into making my avatar did help with the creation because if I didn’t organize
to borrow a laptop and do task earlier, I would of stressed and would panic the
night before which helped with the time management of the avatar which helped in
the process of the creation of my avatar.
·
Discuss
whether you made effective use of the provided profile template to organise and
prepare the required image assets and assist in the creative decision making
process;
I did make a good and effective use of the
profile template that was provided to organize and prepare the images and
assist in the descision making process of what to do through good time
management for example, borrowing a laptop at least once a week to work on the
avatar an doing my character profile early so I can fit the avatar with the
profile.
·
Clarify any
time-management issues you encountered during the process and describe the
steps you implemented to improve in this area;
During the time of creating my avatar, I did
have one time-management issue, which was when I tried to get a laptop. I
handed it in a lunch but since too many people needed them, I was to late to
get one. Ever since I always handed them in at morning tea so I could assure
that I could borrow out a laptop.
·
Discuss whether
you undertook adequate and detailed reflection to throughout your project. Have
you provided enough evidence to support your work? (Look back at your blogs/journals
and think about whether it looks like a whole terms worth of work);
As I look back on my reflections, I realize I
could of done a bit better at the discussion on each of the photos, but I
overall did undertake the right steps in doing a detailed reflection throughout
the term which I am extremely happy about.
While completing this avatar task some tricks
I learnt was to do as many tasks as early as you can so you won’t have to
stress and worry about the avatar 1-2 weeks before the due date.
Discuss
your feelings about the Avatar task:
·
Are you satisfied
with the final result?
Yes. I am
completely satisfied that I did as much and the best work that I could to
complete this task.
·
Would like
to change any aspects of your avatar?
If I could,
I would probably change the background sky to dark time in the angry photo of
my avatar to make it more dark and evil to make it seem dark.
·
If you could
start the project again what would you do differently?
If I were to do
the project again I would change the happy expression to a sad or mad.
·
Are you
pleased with the progress you have made in using Photoshop?
Overall, I very pleased and
happy with the work I have completed.

Creative Media (Avatar 1 Nearly Finished)
Today I finished putting on the clothing for my avatar and nearly finished this avatar so I can finally start my second avatar. With my clothing I decided I am going to a black leather which matches this characters style. But while trying to find my jacket on flickr, I wasn't able to find the one I wanted. So I consulted with Mr Andrew and we decided I could use an image from google. At the moment it looks like:
Overall it looks nearly complete which I am very happy about.

Creative Media (Face)
Today I started to work on my face. I used this puple shade to paint on my face. today that was very important, i realised that my rainbow eyes were from google so I must take off the eyes and replace them with non copyright rainbow swirls. Therefore I changed my eyes into the same type of swirl but using the website, Flickr.
